Torbay MP has today launched his ‘Water Pack’ which aims to provide useful advice and information for constituents who wish to cut their water bills.
Adrian Sanders said:
“I hope that this pack will provide information for customers of South West Water who wish to cut their water bills. This, however, by no means represents an acceptance of unfair water charging but may help customers reduce their bills in the interim.”
In December last year South West Water announced price rises, which when inflation is accounted for, are in the region of 15%. South West water charges are amongst the highest in the country.
Commenting further on the cost of water in the South West, Adrian added:
“Since the privatisation of the water industry, 30% of the nation's coastline has to be cleaned up by 3% of the nation's population. Consequently, water bills are disproportionately high in the south-west region, and they are going to increase. Both South West Water and the Government refuse to budge on this issue.
“I will continue to campaign against high local water charges but until there are concessions on behalf of South West Water I can only give advice to people about how best to reduce their bills themselves. I have questioned the Prime Minister on the issue and received an unsatisfactory response but I will continue to raise this issue in Westminster.
“Torbay residents must not give into and accept high water bills but continue to oppose this unfair charging system.”
Further information and an electronic version of the water pack will be available on Adrian’s website (www.adriansanders.org) with useful links to websites which will help people to reduce their bills. Copies of the pack are also available by calling 01803 200036 or writing to Adrian at the House of Commons (London SW1A 0AA).
